Hales end on a high note
Old Halesonians 2nds 28 – 15 Dudley Kingswinford 2nds
Old Hales started positively but couldn’t break through the DK defence. Hales then suffered some defensive frailties and DK broke through to score an unconverted try.
Hales fought back and started to get the upper hand in the scrum. From an attacking scrum 20 metres out Old Hales took clean ball that gave Tom Harris time to make the perfect pass to fullback Andy Tromans running a good line. Tromans scythed through the DK defence to score close to the posts; Luke Fenton landed the conversion for a 7-5 lead.
Old Hales then disrupted a DK lineout five metres from the DK try line; Jack Manison collected the ball and slipped the ball to Josh Woodward who scored from close range. Luke Fenton added the conversion for a 14-5 lead at half time.
After a period of even play, Hales centre Alex Church was tackled just short of the DK line; Luke Fenton was on hand to collect the ball and force his way over the try line to score. Fenton also converted to make the score 21-5.
The home side’s play then became disjointed and DK gained confidence in attack. DK piled on the pressure and quickly ran in two tries to reduce the lead to 21-15. A tense period followed for Old Hales until Luke Fenton intercepted a DK pass and raced 40 metres to score under the posts. Fenton made it four conversions out of four to seal a 28-15 victory.
