Game 1: Old Hales 5 - Old Yards 2
Game 2: Old Hales 6 - Old Yards 1
Old Yards were a couple of players short for a full squad and we were able to offer them the courtesy that we have been the recipients of on many occasions over the last few seasons and we loaned them a couple of players. Volunteers were requested and 2 offered, Dowie and Sam. Both took to their tasks with vigour and determination, both shone and made excellent contributions for their adopted team, Sam even put a try past us. The tackling from all Old Hales boys was good (if we ignore the couple of scrags) with all three Jacks putting in hit after hit (nice to see Jack Green back and even better to find that his finger held up well) and Harvey mopping up at the back and stopping their attacks and breakaway runs. Ryan had a steaming first half and was a very commanding fly half he covered a lot of ground and made a real nuisance of himself.
The Old Yards team was all U9 and stood up well to our mixed squad, but it was clear that the presence of our U10’s is what made the difference. And the presence of Dowie and Sam in the opposition did some levelling and both received well deserved Man of The Match trophies for their contributions.
We had loads of touch line support and a lot of comments about how well we played!
During the first game their Coach said to me, “you have a very organised looking team here and they are moving the ball about nicely.” Which is always nice to hear.
Welcoming our new player (Alasdair) in his first ever game and helping him stay on side and in the right position with an excellent positive attitude.
Talking back to the ref!
You are not always going to like the decisions but you have to accept them. Rugby is a dangerous game and players have to stay disciplined and talking back to the ref is simply not allowed.
